What are veterinary ophthalmologists?
Veterinary ophthalmologists are specialists who focus solely on the diseases of the eye or systemic diseases affecting the eye and ocular structures. They have completed basic veterinary education, an internship and residency in their specialty, and passed rigorous testing to achieve board certification from the ACVO.

Sarah Stone Hoy, DVM, MS
Ophthalmology
Dr. Sarah Hoy is a native Vermonter who was born in Burlington and raised in Essex Junction. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1997 from Virginia Tech. Following work on the Human Genome Project at The Institute for Genomic Research and ownership of a fly-fishing business in Montana, Dr. Hoy graduated from University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After completing a medical and surgical internship at Colorado State University in 2005, Dr. Hoy was accepted into The Ohio State University's comparative ophthalmology residency, which she completed in 2008.
Pending completion of her board exams in 2010, Dr. Hoy will become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). She is a member of the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Hoy is excited to be back in the Green Mountain State and looks forward to offering the highest quality of compassionate ophthalmic care for your pets!
